United States Consulate General Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam Security Message for U.S. Citizens: Anti-China Demonstrations
May 14, 2014
The U.S. Consulate General alerts U.S. citizens in Vietnam to the demonstrations aimed at Chinese-affiliated companies and factories in and around Ho Chi Minh City and Binh Duong province. Vietnamese authorities are monitoring the demonstrations, and there are reports of a growing police presence on the ground.
U.S. citizens are advised to avoid all protests, demonstrations, and large gatherings. U.S. citizens are cautioned that even demonstrations that are meant to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence. Be alert and aware of your surroundings and pay attention to local news media reports.

By enrolling, you make it easier for the U.S. embassy or consulate to contact you in case of an emergency.
Regularly monitor the State Department’s website, where you can find current Travel Warnings, Travel Alerts, and the Worldwide Caution. Read the Country Specific Information for Vietnam. For additional information, refer to the “Traveler’s Checklist” on the State Department’s website.
