The U.S. Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City and Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade jointly conducted a wind power workshop on February 20 in Ho Chi Minh City. The workshop was an opportunity for Vietnamese government authorities and Vietnam’s wind power developers to engage the U.S. government’s key developmental assistance agencies. Speakers from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), U.S. Export Import Bank and the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) highlighted ongoing projects in Vietnam as they provided insight on how Vietnam could leverage their resources. “ This event brings together experience and knowledge from across the globe to support Vietnam’s efforts to develop clean energy and follow on to the United States’ commitment to “work with other countries to take action to address climate change by expanding clean energy use announced last year by President Obama in his Climate Change Action Plan. It also comes on the heels of Secretary Kerry’s recent visit to Southern Vietnam where he spoke about the threat that climate change poses to this region and highlighted the contract between GE and Cong ly to provide wind turbines to Bac Lieu province. I hope that this workshop sets the stage for more discussions among government, developers and financing institutions serious about seeing Vietnam achieve energy security, maintaining economic growth and developing clean energy, ” said Consul General Rena Bitter in her opening remarks. This was the first time the two governments organized a workshop on wind power development.
