Consul General Rena Bitter opened the Online Copyright Workshop organized by the Center for Further Training of Professional Journalists and the Vietnam Journalists Association (VJA) on January 28. Sponsored by the US Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, the workshop brought together editors and journalists from all over Vietnam to discuss an important issue – intellectual property rights violations in the media. “As journalists and members of the media, you are not only the most knowledgeable and thoughtful group we could have assembled, you are also directly affected by this problem,” said Consul General Rena Bitter in her remarks. “You are interested in the protection of your own work and also uniquely invested in the future of Vietnam, its success, its strength and its prosperity. Protecting intellectual property is about the future- about creating a strong, prosperous and independent Vietnam for the next 20 years. To get there, we need to think about and confront these difficult and challenging problems together.”
