Exploring America Series #3: Michigan and the Great Lakes Region

Michigan is the birthplace of the U.S. auto industry, and home of Motown Records in Detroit. Meanwhile, the Great Lakes offer outstanding tourism and recreation opportunities, from wilderness activities to waterfront beaches. Come join Cameron Thomas-Shah, who will help you discover the beauty, as well as the historical and cultural heritage of Michigan and the Great Lakes Region.
Exploring America Series #4: Texas

Texas is a big place with many different types of landscapes and people. While some try to reduce the state to stereotypes, Ben will portray the state’s diversity and idiosyncrasies. After all, Texas isn’t just about cowboys and horses. Ben will share stories about his experiences growing up in Texas: his grandfather’s cattle ranch, living in the live music capital of the world, and the differences between the piney woods of East Texas and the wide open plain of West Texas. Come learn about the history, geography, and people that make up the state of Texas.

Documentary Screening on LGBT
Time: Friday, August 14, 5:00pm
Speaker: Information Connecting and Sharing (ICS)
Attend the screening of two documentary movies on the lives of LGBT individuals. We will screen ‘Another Love Story’ (Lại Một Chuyện Tình Yêu Nữa), which features a love story between a transgender and a straight woman. We will also screen ‘The House Across’ (Nhà Đối Diện), which tells the love story of two make-up stylists. After the screening, ICS representative(s) will have an open discussion about LGBT rights in contemporary Vietnam.
