Ambassador Osius’ Remarks at the VietPride HCMC Opening Ceremony

Sunday, September 24, 2017

Hello, everyone!

It is wonderful to see so many people here today to celebrate Viet Pride in Ho Chi Minh City!

Thank you to the organizers and volunteers, especially Tran Khac Tung and his colleagues at ICS, who have worked so hard to make these last three days possible.

What a success!

The United States is committed to promoting equality for all people, a constitutional principle our two great countries share.

As part of this founding principle, the U.S. strives to prevent discrimination and violence against all individuals, including LGBTI persons.

This belief – enshrined in our law — is one reason I am so proud to stand here today, with my husband, Clayton Bond, with my U.S. mission team, and most importantly, with you all this evening.

This event reflects what is possible and what true equality can look like.

I hope you enjoyed the festivities this afternoon and on to the walk!
