“Khôi phục Đường thủy Thành phố Sài Gòn” vẽ nên một bức tranh khắc nghiệt về con kênh Tham Lương – Bến Cát bị ô nhiễm nặng, chảy qua 7 quận của thành phố lớn nhất Việt Nam. Trước năm 2000, chất lượng nước của kênh được coi là tốt. Nhưng ngày nay nó có mùi hôi thối và đen kịt, bị ô nhiễm bởi nước thải của các khu dân cư và công nghiệp phát triển dọc theo con kênh và dễ bị ngập lụt vào mùa mưa. Ngân hàng Phát triển Châu Á đang chuẩn bị cho Chính phủ một dự án cải thiện hệ thống thoát nước và làm sạch các tuyến đường thủy có ảnh hưởng đến cuộc sống của hơn 2 triệu người dân sống trong lưu vực.

The Tham Luong-Ben Cat Canal is heavily polluted and prone to flooding. Urgent investment in drainage and pollution control is crucial for the well-being of 2 million people living in the catchment.
Go Vap Park, a 37-hectare green space along the canal, offers hope for improved drainage and flood control measures.
The Nhieu Loc-Thi Nghe Canal restoration serves as a model for restoring waterways through wastewater treatment and creating a beautiful environment along the canal’s banks in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City.
“Restoring Waterways of Ho Chi Minh City” paints a stark picture of the heavily polluted Tham Luong—Ben Cat Canal, which flows through 7 districts in Viet Nam’s largest city. Before 2000, the water quality of the canal was considered good. But today it is foul-smelling and black, contaminated by wastewater discharged by residential and industrial development alongside the canal and prone to flooding in the rainy season. A project to improve drainage and clean up the waterway, which impacts the lives of over 2 million people living in the catchment, is being prepared by the Asian Development Bank for the Government.
