Join Brian and documentary photographer Cuong Tran for an open discussion about how they find their subjects, and what they do to make photos that express their philosophy.
Brian Neely has been a photographer for about 30 years. He has written and photographed a book on winemaking in Hungary, and has exhibited his work in the US, Kazakhstan, Greece, Afghanistan, and Hungary. He draws inspiration from the classic photographers of the American West, such as Ansel Adams and Edward Weston, and is passionate about using photography to bring people from all over the world together.
Cuong Tran is a documentary photographer based in Ho Chi Minh City. His projects first evolved from commuting through Luong Dinh Cua street eight times every day, where he instinctively started taking pictures. His images witness firsthand the area’s rapid
urbanization. After developing his craft, he decided to document the lives of workers from the provinces, visiting construction sites, residential areas, and hamlets, to explore how people cling to the land across the river. He is the co-founder of Saigon Life, a cafe that has become a fixture in the local photography community thanks to its regular events and workshops that support emerging photography in Ho Chi Minh City.
